New Delhi, April 07, 2025 – The Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) launched the 7th edition of Poshan Pakhwada 2025 today, marking the beginning of a nationwide campaign aimed at promoting nutrition and combating malnutrition across India. Running from April 8 to April 23, this year’s initiative emphasizes four key themes designed to address critical health challenges and foster a healthier future for the nation’s children, women, and adolescents.

Highlights of Poshan Pakhwada 2025

  1. Care During the First 1,000 Days of Life
A major focus of this year’s Poshan Pakhwada is the critical window of the first 1,000 days—from conception to a child’s second birthday. This period is seen as foundational for physical and cognitive development. The campaign will promote awareness about proper maternal nutrition, breastfeeding, and complementary feeding practices to ensure a strong start for every child.
  2. Popularizing the Poshan Tracker Beneficiary Module
The Ministry is leveraging technology to enhance nutrition services through the Poshan Tracker App. The newly introduced Beneficiary Module aims to streamline the monitoring of nutritional support for millions of beneficiaries, including children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. This digital tool is expected to improve accountability and ensure timely interventions.
  3. Effective Management of Malnutrition
Addressing malnutrition remains a cornerstone of the campaign. Activities will include community-based programs to identify and support undernourished children and women, particularly in aspirational districts and rural areas. The initiative builds on the success of previous editions by strengthening local healthcare systems and promoting nutrient-rich diets.
  4. Promoting Healthy Lifestyles to Combat Childhood Obesity
For the first time, Poshan Pakhwada is tackling the growing issue of childhood obesity. With rising concerns over unhealthy eating habits and sedentary lifestyles, the campaign will encourage physical activity, balanced diets, and awareness about the long-term impacts of obesity among children and adolescents.

A Nationwide Movement

The 7th Poshan Pakhwada aligns with the broader Poshan Abhiyaan (National Nutrition Mission), launched in 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This year’s edition will see participation from various ministries, state governments, Anganwadi workers, and community organizations. Events such as nutrition workshops, health camps, and awareness drives are planned across urban and rural regions to engage citizens at every level.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi, emphasized the importance of collective action, stating, “Poshan Pakhwada is not just a campaign—it’s a movement to ensure every child and mother in India receives the nutrition they deserve. Our focus on the first 1,000 days and technology-driven solutions will pave the way for a healthier tomorrow.”

Budget Boost and Future Goals

The initiative comes on the heels of a significant funding increase in the Union Budget 2025, where the Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 programs received ₹21,960 crore—an increase from ₹20,070.90 crore the previous year. This financial backing underscores the government’s commitment to tackling malnutrition and improving early childhood care.

As Poshan Pakhwada 2025 unfolds, the Ministry aims to reach over 8 crore children, 1 crore pregnant and lactating women, and 20 lakh adolescent girls, with a special focus on underserved regions. The campaign’s success will be measured not only by its immediate impact but also by its contribution to India’s long-term goal of becoming a malnutrition-free nation.
